CHOOSE YOUR GOLD
It’s important to think about your budget when deciding on your rings. Metal costs vary considerably depending on the carat of Gold as well as the colour:
GOLD CARAT & COLOUR
What is a Carat ? This refers to the amount of pure gold incorporated in the metal. Pure gold is 24 carats and is highly valuable, but soft and malleable, so not used in jewellery making.
The most commonly used for wedding rings is 18ct. as it has a good amount of gold, which adds to a nice weight. The more gold contained the heavier the weight this is another consideration.
Bear in mind when commissioning your ring gold prices vary from day to day and go up and down. Gold is an investment.
I can work with all gold Yellow, Rose and white and all carats from 9ct, 14ct, 18ct 22ct as well as Silver. Its also possible to work in Platinum depending on what you require.
18ct Yellow Gold contains 75% pure gold and 25% other metals (usually a combination of silver and copper)
18ct White Gold the 25% contains purely of white metals to present a silvery hue.
18ct Rose Gold the other 25% of metals added is mostly copper to give it the rose colour.
9ct Gold it has a content of 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% other metals. Comes in White Gold, Yellow Gold or Rose Gold.
14 Carat gold is used extensively in Europe and USA. It’s harder to purchase here. The gold content is composed of 58.3% pure gold and has a brighter gold colour than 9ct and is heavier. Comes in Yellow Gold, White Gold & Rose Gold.
SILVER For a more modest budget Silver is a great option price wise. and often a preferred choice of metal
RECYCLING GOLD I offer recycling service if you have any gold you would like to use.
HALLMARKING
Hallmarking is a process to test and stamp the metal. This is done at my local Assay Office in London where I am registered a jewellery designer and maker. First the metal is tested for purity( 9ct, 18ct etc ) and then the gold stamp is struck inside, also the year, the assay office (place London) and my individual makers mark are added. My work is all hamarked at the London Assay Office and struck with the iconic Leopard Head.
